Boss Bo (played by Ng Man-tat), the owner of Bo's Diner, is also the landlord of a building in Tai Ping Fang. As the land gets developed, many old neighbors are forced to move away, while Boss Bo stays with his old house and tenants, refusing to sell the property. Boss Bo's nephew, Da Zhi (played by Yuen Biao), comes to Hong Kong from a Beijing acrobatic troupe to seek a better future with Boss Bo. However, Boss Bo scoffs at Da Zhi's fancy cooking style, deeming it a distraction from serious work. Meanwhile, Lin Feng (played by Leon Lai), the son of the Lin Group aiming to develop Tai Ping Fang, is unhappy with his father's profit-driven approach and runs away but gets injured by thugs. Boss Bo saves Lin Feng, who receives help from the neighbors and meets Boss Bo's daughter, Xiao Ai (played by Shu Qi). Da Zhi has the opportunity to develop abroad but faces opposition from Boss Bo, leading to a fallout between them.
