This is a story set in a Hong Kong opera troupe in the 1980s. The mischievous martial artist A Gui (played by Dong Wei) often dresses up as a ghost to scare people, even frequently playing tricks on the leading actress, Xin Shaojia. The troupe is both angry and helpless towards his antics. This time, while A Gui is again dressing up to scare people, he unexpectedly encounters a real ghost—the Chaozhou ghost. A Gui is so scared he loses control, but fortunately, the experienced old stagehand, Sheng Shu (played by Lam Ching-Ying), learns that the Chaozhou ghost was dismembered in life and cannot rest peacefully in death. To help the Chaozhou ghost find peace, Sheng Shu and A Gui decide to retrieve all of its remains. However, they mistakenly dig up the remains of another evil ghost, causing chaos in the troupe. Sheng Shu decides to team up with A Gui to dress up as Taoist priests to scare away the evil ghost.
