This film is adapted from Yasunari Kawabata's famous novel "The Dancer from Izu." Kawashima (played by Tomokazu Miura), who is about to attend a high school in Tokyo, travels to Izu during the summer vacation before school starts. On the mountain road, where the weather alternates between sunshine and rain, he encounters a group of itinerant Kabuki performers. Attracted by a petite and delicate dancer with an ancient hairstyle carrying a large drum, he decides to join them on their journey. Along the way, he learns that the dancer's name is Kaoru (played by Momoe Yamaguchi). Despite the Kabuki performers' low social status, Kawashima often invites them to play at the inn where he is staying. After spending some alone time with Kaoru, he is further captivated by her pure and unblemished beauty, leading him to feel conflicted—torn between his uncontrollable impulses and concerns for her potential humiliation during performances. As their relationship develops, Kaoru also begins to develop genuine feelings for him. However, they can only remain fleeting visitors in each other's lives.
