Princess Victoria (played by Romy Schneider) successfully ascends to the throne, becoming the next queen of the British Empire. At this time, the royal family members begin to worry about her marriage, unanimously believing that their queen has reached the age to marry, and enthusiastically turn her birthday party into a matchmaking event. Victoria does not want to marry; she feels that there are other more meaningful things in her life to pursue than marriage. To escape her predetermined fate, Victoria secretly leaves London for France, living anonymously in a small inn. Here, Victoria encounters a young and handsome German student, Albert (played by Adrian Hoven), who causes her heart to flutter. In reality, this German student is actually a prince.
