The film tells the story of a female agent from the Treasury Department (played by Grace) responsible for escorting a shipment of outdated currency worth $600 million to a shredding facility. However, a rare hurricane is about to hit the area, and a group of heavily armed thieves plans to "hijack the wind" after the residents have been evacuated. When the hurricane reaches a deadly Category 5, all their carefully laid plans are disrupted. They discover they need a vault code that only the female agent knows, and both her life and that of the hostages are at risk. After teaming up with a stranded local meteorologist (played by Toby Kebbell), whose brother has also been kidnapped by the thieves, the two must face the hurricane and the criminals together. After a series of thrilling and dangerous encounters, they ultimately defeat the thieves and survive the hurricane disaster.
