The story takes place in the Netherlands in 1920. Hans (played by Jeroen Spitzenberger) is a talented painter, but his works are unpopular among art critics due to his overly retro style; some even accuse him of copying the works of others. By coincidence, Hans falls in love with a woman named Joranka (played by Lize Feryn), who is married to Bradyu, a dominant art critic at the time. Hans's actions are like dancing in front of a gun's muzzle, causing his artistic career to crumble.
