Professor Edward Johnston (played by Billy Connolly) is a historian dedicated to medieval archaeology, and excavating the 14th-century Laroche Castle has always been his lifelong dream. However, it is not until today that his wish is finally granted, when Robert (played by David Thewlis), the president of an international tech company, is willing to invest in the project. He immediately teams up with his son Chris (played by Paul Walker) to form an archaeological group to explore the historical battlefield in France. During a routine dig, the team discovers a distress message from 1357 signed by Professor Johnston, along with his glasses found nearby, which have been there for over 600 years. Perplexed, the team approaches investor Robert and learns that the ambitious Robert secretly invented a time machine, capable of sending people back to 1357 through a wormhole. Faced with this terrifying yet fantastic tool, Chris decides to lead the team back to the Middle Ages to rescue his father. However, none of them can predict what awaits them on the other side of the wormhole... This film is adapted from the novel of the same name by American author Michael Crichton.
