Senior Inspector Li Dewei (played by Li Xiuxian) leads a team to raid a thieves' den, but the main culprits, the couple Liu Dachuan (played by Lin Wei) and Wang Xiaofeng, manage to escape cunningly. Li's wife Jenny (played by Zheng Yuling) worries about the dangers of her husband's job and repeatedly urges him to find another job. After a heated argument, Jenny eventually leaves with their son. Liu Dachuan successfully robs a bank at the airport and hijacks a taxi to flee, but coincidentally, his wife goes into labor. They find a doctor to help with the delivery, but the baby is weak and must be left in the hospital. During their escape, Liu's wife bleeds out and dies. Liu decides to go back to the hospital to retrieve his newborn child and happens to encounter and take Li's wife and son hostage, demanding a swap for his own son. In a critical moment, Li shoots and kills Liu.
