"Hong Xuezhi's Campaign Against Bandits in Heihe" tells the story of Hong Xuezhi, commander of the Heilongjiang Military Region, who was tasked with a critical mission on the eve of liberation, penetrating deep into the tiger's den to eliminate the bandits and mountain thieves that had taken refuge in the Heihe area of Heilongjiang. In May 1946, General Hong Xuezhi led the 1st Special Regiment of the 3rd Division of the New Fourth Army to Beian and Heihe, where, leveraging his exceptional command skills and rich combat experience, he inflicted significant damage on the forces of Liu Guangcai, the largest bandit leader in the Heihe region at that time, annihilating most of the bandit armed forces. He then continued to lead his troops north along the Heilong River, relieving Huma and liberating Mohe, achieving the comprehensive liberation of China’s northern border. During this period, the Heihe Central County Committee was transformed into the Heihe Prefectural Committee, and General Hong Xuezhi concurrently served as the committee secretary and military sub-area commander. In just eight months, his footprint spread across Beian, Xunk County, and Sunwu, leading the bandit-eradicating forces in battles across the north and south. He focused on troop building, emphasized political propaganda, conducted large-scale reorganizations and strict military training for his troops, and supported the establishment of the "Heihe Daily" under the suggestion of the then deputy secretary of the prefectural committee, Yue Lin, opening up a political propaganda front. Under his direct leadership, on August 8, 1946, Heihe established the Zhaolin Joint School, appointing numerous highly qualified senior comrades and old cadres as school leaders, making the school a cradle for educating and cultivating revolutionary backbones and base cadres. After the situation stabilized, General Hong Xuezhi left Heihe. In the years that followed, he often missed the people of Heihe, caring about its construction and development, and valued and supported the border-opening efforts of Heihe. When General Hong returned to Heihe in 1992, he happily remarked that Heihe had changed, shedding its old image; he also offered guiding advice on Heihe's construction and development.
