Zhang Zheng (played by Chow Yun-fat), an American-Chinese, is appointed to escort a treasure from mainland China to the United States. He soon arrives at the famous Shaolin Temple to wait for news. His easygoing nature allows him to quickly befriend a seven-year-old monk, Qingchun. After all, there are significant differences in lifestyle habits between ordinary people and monks, leading to many unexpected and frustrating experiences for Zhang Zheng as a guest. Later, Zhang Zheng discovers that the treasure is a girl named Xiao Jing (played by Wu Chien-lien) with special powers. Together, they uncover a great conspiracy, but it does not hinder the growth of their feelings for each other.
