Lola (Franka Potente) and Manny (Moritz Bleibtreu) are a young couple, with Manny being a layabout engaged in petty crime, while Lola is a romantic idealist who believes "love can conquer anything." One day, Manny is waiting for Lola with a bag containing 100,000 marks after completing a diamond deal for his boss. However, Lola's bike gets stolen, delaying her arrival. Manny has to take the subway back. On the subway, he helps a nearby beggar and suddenly sees two police officers approaching him. In a panic, Manny gets off the train, forgetting the bag of money. Obviously, the beggar takes the bag. At this point, there are only 20 minutes left until Manny's meeting with his boss to hand over the money. If he can't gather 100,000 marks within 20 minutes, he will be killed by his boss. Desperate, Manny calls Lola for help; if she can't arrive in 20 minutes, he'll be forced to rob the supermarket across from the phone booth. The test of Lola's love begins. To raise 100,000 marks in 20 minutes to save Manny, she runs desperately to seek help from her banker father.
