Shier (played by Yuen Biao) is an orphan discovered by an old Daoist (played by Wu Ma) in a wooden basin by the river, who names him Shier and raises him. Since childhood, Shier has followed the old Daoist in capturing ghosts and dealing with demons, having little contact with the mundane world, except for one friend, Cui Shusheng (played by Ngai Choi Wah). The Ghost King (played by Li Meifeng) has always done evil, often abducting innocent young girls and taking them to the underworld. Mo Chou is a young girl taken away by the Ghost King; she was abducted on her wedding day, becoming a lonely ghost trapped by the Ghost King. Cui Shusheng encounters Mo Chou, who can be attached to the painting, and is enchanted by her graceful and lovely figure, but the Ghost King refuses to let Mo Chou go. Cui Shusheng is determined to rescue Mo Chou, but is instead captured by the Ghost King. Shier, who is desperate to save his friend, finds the old Daoist unhelpful and indifferent to human feelings. Will Shier be able to save Cui Shusheng? Is the kind-hearted Daoist truly so heartless?
