The story takes place in the beautiful and tranquil Moroccan village of Tazekka, where Ilyas (played by Olivier Sitruk) lives a life of dependence with his grandmother. Ilyas's greatest hobby is cooking and memorizing recipes, and under his grandmother's guidance, he has nearly mastered every Moroccan dish. His passion and talent for food catch the attention of a passing French chef, who suggests that Ilyas should go to the culinary capital of Paris to pursue his dreams. Thus, Ilyas leaves his grandmother in their hometown and sets off alone. As an illegal immigrant, Ilyas struggles to find legitimate work in a foreign land and can only sustain himself by taking on odd jobs. Meanwhile, he receives news of his grandmother's illness, which makes him question whether his choice was the right one.
