In the late years of the Ming Dynasty, Emperor Chongzhen issued an edict to the Crown Prince, entrusting the eunuch Wang Chengen's nephew Wang Zhiming (played by Xun Feng) to protect the Crown Prince (played by He Wei) on their journey to Nanjing, hoping that old ministers would help the Crown Prince ascend the throne. Along the way, they faced blockades ahead and pursuers behind; Wang Zhiming, out of desperation, impersonated the Crown Prince and was captured, allowing the Crown Prince to escape.
