During the Ming Dynasty's Wanli era, the renowned general Qi Jiguang fell victim to the slander of eunuchs and withdrew to live a secluded life. A martial arts student named Fang Xinjing came to the capital to take the imperial martial arts examination but failed, feeling lost and without a plan. Fortunately, he met the wealthy businessman Yu Chengzong in the capital. Yu, being generous and hospitable, not only redeemed the famous courtesan Ziyan to matchmake for Fang but also paid handsomely for Fang to go to Dengzhou to celebrate Qi Jiguang's birthday. On their journey, they were suddenly attacked by bandits seeking to steal the birthday gifts, but a mysterious person appeared to save them by eliminating the thieves. Soon after, Fang met the swordsman Li Wuyan and a woman from the jianghu named Yizhenfeng, and the three became close friends, heading together to Shandong. However, they encountered fierce battles with Japanese pirates along the way, and Li accidentally got shot by a poisoned arrow. Yizhenfeng took great care of him, leading to growing romantic feelings. When they arrived at Dengzhou, it was just before Qi Jiguang's birthday celebration. That night, Qi died mysteriously. The next day, when Fang came to celebrate, he was heartbroken to learn of Qi's death. He and Li Wuyan parted ways with Yizhenfeng. Fang hurried back to the capital and discovered that the wealthy businessman Yu Chengzong had died a year before. This left Fang puzzled, and through careful investigation, he found out that Yu Chengzong was actually impersonated by Qi Jiguang's general Yang Siwei, who used Fang to deliver birthday gifts as a cover to assassinate Qi Jiguang. However, Qi had not received the gifts and had already died, indicating that the real assassin was someone else. Who truly assassinated Qi Jiguang?
