In the future, 2044. Time travel has been illegal since its invention, only used by criminal organizations to eliminate specific targets without leaving any traces in this world, hence the deployment of "Loopers." They are specifically responsible for executing those sent back in time to their world. They are called "Loopers" because they ultimately must kill their future selves—this way, they won't leave any troubles for future clients. This process is known as "closing the loop." Young Joe (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) is the youngest Looper, an impeccable marksman, but when he attempts to execute his future self (Bruce Willis), he faces fierce resistance and fails. Old Joe hopes to kill a key figure in the future's loop-closing plan—the Rainmaker—to change the fate of his wife (Xu Qing); during the pursuit, young Joe encounters single mother Sarah (Emily Blunt), unexpectedly becoming a protector for her and her son.
