Dance teacher Wang Jinsheng (played by Aaron Kwok) in Shanghai is naturally severely colorblind, living in a gray world. One day, Wang Jinsheng goes out for a promotional event, and while performing, he encounters Le Er (played by Cecilia Cheung) who blends into the crowd. They engage in a passionate dance on the street, finding an unexpected harmony between two strangers. Later, they meet again on the street, and Wang Jinsheng heroically saves Le Er from a harasser. A few days later, Le Er visits the dance center to invite Wang Jinsheng to Suzhou for a trip. She reveals to him that she is of mixed Chinese and Japanese heritage, having left Japan to escape an arranged marriage. The two enjoy a joyful holiday together, and it seems like Wang Jinsheng's world gains color, but love is not easy to measure, as Wang Jinsheng is not the man Le Er idealizes. After the holiday ends, she decides to return to Japan to get married, leaving Wang Jinsheng in deep pain, and he decides to pursue a true love in Japan...
