The story takes place during World War II, where American pilot David (played by Harrison Ford) is stationed in London, England. Amid the chaos of war, David encounters a British nurse named Margaret (played by Lesley-Anne Down), whose beauty and gentleness immediately capture his heart. Although Margaret already has a family and children, this does not hinder their relationship. Margaret's husband, Paul (played by Christopher Plummer), works at the British intelligence office.
