Casey (Nicholas Hoult) is a small-time thief who spends his days idle and carefree. Due to his numerous criminal records in the United States, he ultimately decides to escape to Germany. There, Casey becomes an underling of the drug lord Gran (Ben Kingsley). While serving a drug lord is not considered a healthy job for a normal person, Casey finds satisfaction in it after living a life of turmoil. One day, Casey learns that his girlfriend Juliette (Felicity Jones) is seriously ill and in urgent need of a kidney transplant. To raise the huge medical expenses, Casey decides to set aside his own safety and take on a big job. Little does he know that this big job will entangle him in the interests of Germany's biggest drug lord, Hagen (Anthony Hopkins).
