Detailed introduction

This film (drama)Also known as郁達夫傳奇,is aHong Kong, ChinaProducerwomen sex,At1988Released in year 。The dialogue language isCantonese,Current Douban rating6.9(For reference only)。
As a prominent modern Chinese literary figure, Yu Dafu went to Japan to study at the age of seventeen, witnessing and experiencing the discrimination of the Japanese against Chinese people, which sparked his ambition for diligent study. He was friends with Gang Tian and they both fell in love with the girl Long Er. Torn between friendship and love, Yu Dafu ultimately chose friendship, allowing Long Er to go with Gang Tian… Later, because the Japanese deemed Yu Dafu to have experienced and known too much, they brutally killed him. This is the first historical film starring Chow Yun-fat, and despite being somewhat unpolished, it received a good response. He deeply portrayed a phase of this famous writer's emotional journey. Director Fang Lingzheng seems to have a strong fascination with love stories that cross both China and Japan, as evidenced in his later film "Christ in Nanjing" (starring Tony Leung), which is based on Ryūnosuke Akutagawa's autobiographical novel of the same name, telling the love story between this famous Japanese writer and a Chinese girl during his visit to China... In this film, director Fang Lingzheng explores two themes: one is the young Yu Dafu's confusion about sexuality and the pursuit of love, and the other is the love and hatred surrounding the national issues between China and Japan. The former is expressed romantically and subtly, capturing the essence of Eastern literary films, with some segments having a fresh and airy feeling akin to European romance films. The latter displays intense patriotism, moving the audience. Most of the film was shot on location in Japan, and cinematographer Chen Peijia performed excellently, showcasing high standards in composition, color arrangement, and camera movement, rivaling Japanese art films. The director and writer demonstrated commendable skills in coordinating form and content, resulting in a solid film.
