Inspector Lee (Jackie Chan) and his old partner James Carter (Chris Tucker), who has flown in from Los Angeles for a vacation in Hong Kong, are constantly on the go. After a bomb attack on the U.S. consulate claims the lives of two staff members, Inspector Lee has no choice but to take Carter to visit the triad leader, who is also his father's former partner, Mr. Deng (Donnie Yen). Shortly after, Deng's henchwoman Hu Li (Zhang Ziyi) and others attack Lee and Carter. Before long, Lee is barred from participating in the case by U.S. authorities, and the Hong Kong police station also suffers a bomb attack. Separated, Lee and Carter end up on Deng's yacht, where they learn about a rift within the triad. Just as they speak, Hu Li shoots Deng in the sea...
