The story takes place in 2045, where virtual reality technology has permeated every corner of human life. James Halliday (played by Mark Rylance) created a virtual reality game world called "The Oasis." Before his death, he announced that he had set up an Easter egg within the game, and whoever finds this egg will become the heir to The Oasis. To find this egg, they must first obtain three keys, and the clues to finding the keys are hidden in James's past.
