In the late Qing Dynasty, the Meng family was exterminated by the regent prince, leaving only the youngest son, Meng Er Kui, who was saved by the great martial artist Yu Sheng Ying and his apprentice Guan Yi Long. Yu Sheng Ying was famous across the land at the time, but he was challenged by Yue Jiang Tian, ultimately suffering defeat and losing the golden plaque bestowed by the regent, "Martial Arts Master," from then on he fell into despair. Many years later, Guan Yi Long (played by Wu Zun) and Meng Er Kui (played by Han Geng) have grown up, honing their skills and vowing to avenge their master. When Guan and Meng debut in Shanghai, they defeat the martial artist Yue Jiang Tian and reclaim the "Martial Arts Master" plaque for their master, making a name for themselves.
