The story takes place in the mid-19th century, where the residents of the northeastern region of Victoria are living in dire circumstances, and Ned Kelly (played by Heath Ledger) is one of them. From a young age, Ned has witnessed the incompetence and corruption of law enforcement. At the age of 16, he was imprisoned on false charges, an experience that made Ned grow up quickly and become a reliable figure capable of shouldering family responsibilities. However, the calm life did not last long when a police officer attempted to assault Ned's sister, Kate (played by Kerry Condon). In a fit of rage, Ned violently attacked the officer. As a result of this incident, Ned began his life on the run, alongside his friends Steve (played by Philip Barantini) and Joe (played by Orlando Bloom). They formed the "Kelly Gang" to fight against injustice. The existence of the Kelly Gang infuriated the authorities, who vowed to bring them to justice at any cost.
