Xiao Long (played by Zhang Wenlong) was born into a poor family. Unable to support him, his mother sent him to a drama school to apprentice under Yu Zhan Yuan (played by Hong Jinbao) to learn the craft. At school, Xiao Long befriended fellow students San Mao (played by Zhong Jinren) and A Biao (played by Huang Jianwei), forming deep bonds of friendship. The school's strict rules made life tough for San Mao and Xiao Long, yet their passion for the craft remained strong. Despite his stern demeanor, Yu Zhan Yuan genuinely cared for and nurtured his students. By chance, San Mao met a Cantonese opera actress named Cheng Shui Xian, and they fell in love. As time went on, interest in Peking opera dwindled, and audiences decreased, prompting many peers to transition into the film industry, where they thrived. Struggling financially, Yu Zhan Yuan ultimately decided to close the school, leaving Xiao Long and the others without the only home they had, leading to a heartfelt farewell as the master and disciples parted ways to pursue their own lives.
