During the Anti-Japanese War, in Longmen Village of the North China base area, there were a father and son with the surname Zhao. The father (Shu Shi) was the captain of the militia squad, and his 12-year-old son Hai Wa (Cai Yuan Yuan) was the leader of the children's group. One day, Father Zhao asked Hai Wa to deliver a feather letter to the Eighth Route Army regarding an attack on the Japanese artillery tower.
