During the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, a guerrilla squad was active along the railways in the Lincheng and Zaozhuang areas of southern Shandong. Under the leadership of Captain Liu Hong (Cao Huiqu) and Political Commissar Li Zheng (Feng Qi), the squad cooperated with the main forces to strike heavily against the Japanese army and was affectionately called the "Flying Tigers" by the local people. The Japanese army attempted various surprise attacks on the "Flying Tigers," which ultimately led to Liu Hong being injured.
