The minister Kong Rong (played by Wang Qingxiang) vowed to speak truth to power, only to fall victim to Cao's soldiers. Cao Cao had already made up his mind to eliminate the southern rebels Liu Bei (played by You Yong) and Sun Quan (played by Zhang Zhen) and unify the realm. After the Battle of Changban Slope, under the assistance of military strategist Zhuge Liang (played by Takeshi Kaneshiro), Liu Bei led his sworn brothers Guan Yu, Zhang Fei (played by Zang Jinsheng), and Zhao Yun (played by Hu Jun), bringing along refugees in a retreat while fighting. Eventually, they sought help from Sun Quan in Jiangdong. However, Sun Quan was also hesitant about resisting Cao. But the great general Zhou Yu (played by Tony Leung) and his sister Sun Shangxiang both supported him in battle. With the enemy advancing, the Sun-Liu alliance began to take shape. Zhuge Liang felt reassured seeing Zhou Yu's strict military discipline, especially as his general Gan Xing (played by Nakamura Shidō) led the charge.
