After the three major battles, the strategic focus of the Liberation War shifted to the northwest. Hu Zongnan led his troops to flee south, and his remnants, led by Fang Ziqiao (played by Fang Hua), found themselves at a dead end and escaped to Mount Huashan in the West. Among the Five Great Mountains, Huashan is the most perilous. Fang Ziqiao stationed heavy troops at key mountain passes to resist stubbornly. Our army's reconnaissance officer (played by Guo Yuntai) led a small team into the mountainous area and found a medicinal farmer, Chang Shenglin (played by Liu Liu).
