In the 1940s, Zhao Huaizhong, who made his fortune through drug smuggling and arms trading, holds a wedding for his son, Mengyu. Zhang Wu, a bandit, learns that Zhao will be conducting a drug deal with Commander Hu at the wedding. He goes to the wedding intending to steal and destroy the drugs but finds that the bride is his long-lost love, Xiaomei. Zhang takes Xiaomei away. Upon returning victorious, Zhang Wu sees Xiaomei struggling in pain due to drug withdrawal. After learning that Zhao Huaizhong has been forcing Xiaomei into addiction for a long time, he becomes enraged and invades Zhao's mansion, killing Zhao Huaizhong. The death of his father leads Mengyu to collude with Commander Hu, intending to use Hu against Zhang Wu to reclaim Xiaomei. When he surrounds Zhang Wu's stronghold with his men, Xiaomei returns to the Zhao family with Mengyu to save Zhang Wu's brothers. Back at the Zhao family, Xiaomei struggles with her feelings for Zhang Wu while being unable to escape Mengyu's infatuation, leading to inner conflict. However, when Xiaomei learns that Mengyu has killed her lover to force Mengyun to marry Hu’s son, her heart turns cold. The ensuing events are tragic: at the wedding, an angry Mengyun pulls the trigger at Master Hu, despondent Xiaomei resolutely commits suicide by bullet, and desperate Mengyu ultimately aims a gun at his own heart...
