The story takes place during the Ming Dynasty in the Jiajing era. The Ping An Escort Bureau has faced an unprecedented “failure” after years of stability, with the escort team being captured and robbed by bandits outside the pass. Wang Zhaoxing (played by Wu Qilong) and Gu Ping'an (played by Wang Ou) find the situation suspicious and decide to uncover the truth. With the help of their friend Gao Xiang (played by Huang Xuan), they eventually discover that the person behind the robbery is General Tengfei (played by Hai Bo), who is stationed at the border. During this time, Tengfei captures Wang Zhaoxing and frames him for the crime. Gu Ping'an contacts several captains and decides to rescue Wang during the day of the execution.
