In the later stages of the Liberation War, following the victorious conclusion of the three major campaigns, the Central Committee and Chairman Mao made strategic decisions, directing Liu Bocheng (played by Fu Xuecheng) and Deng Xiaoping (played by Lu Qi) to lead parts of the Second Field Army and the Fourth Field Army to advance towards Hunan, Hubei, Guizhou, and Sichuan, encircling and annihilating the remaining enemies in the Southwest. On the way south, Deng Xiaoping inquired about the construction of the Chengyu Railway from a railway expert he encountered, and provided timely political education to the southern forces, implementing Chairman Mao's great teaching of "carrying the revolution through to the end." Liu Bocheng led his troops to thwart Chiang Kai-shek's (played by Zhao Hengduo) plots, successfully crossing the Wu River, capturing an enemy corps commander, and breaking through the Baima Mountain defense line, liberating the important southwestern city of Chongqing.
