Will Padding (Danielle Macdonald) is a slightly chubby girl, nicknamed "Dumpling" by people. Her mother, Rosie (Jennifer Aniston), was once a local beauty queen and has always been enthusiastically organizing every beauty pageant. As Rosie, still charming in middle age, makes Will feel even more self-conscious about her appearance and body, the two often bicker over these matters. Will decides to stir things up in the beauty pageant organized by Rosie and bravely signs up. Later, at a bar, Will meets drag queen Dolly (Harold Perrineau Jr.), who sees the girl's inner secret and decides to help Will become a better person.
