In the mid-Meiji period, the brothels of Nagasaki remained as prosperous as ever, and geishas at all levels were still the objects of admiration and pursuit by wealthy men. Among them, two top courtesans, Ayame (played by Kishi Koyoko) and Yume (played by Kawaguchi Koeda), stood out.
