The 17th son of the Tokugawa shogunate, Sadao of the Misanosumizu family (played by Masaki Okada), has been haunted by nightmares since childhood, leading to madness that worsens over time. His erratic behavior becomes a source of embarrassment for the shogunate, prompting them to seek a quick solution. His loyal retainer, Kakuno (played by Akira Emoto), cautiously arranges for Sadao to recuperate in his subordinate samurai Ajojirō’s (played by Keisuke Koide) hometown of Setadamura. During the journey, Sadao’s trained falcon flies into the legendary Setakayama, where tengu are said to dwell. Ignoring Ajojirō’s warnings, Sadao hastily rides into the mountain. In a serene and beautiful setting, he encounters a lovely girl named Are (played by Yu Aoi). After a brief scuffle, they each begin to feel a strange connection. A beautiful yet ultimately fruitless romance unfolds... This film is adapted from the original work by Mari Uegasawa.
