Kandry (Gérard Depardieu) has a happy family that everyone envies. Although he has been married to his wife for many years, their relationship remains sweet and strong. Unfortunately, this life comes to an end with the arrival of the couple Philippe (Henri Garcin) and Mathilde (Fanny Ardant).
It turns out that there was once a passionate and sincere relationship between Mathilde and Kandry, but due to various misunderstandings, they ultimately did not end up together. Now both are married, and their reunion brings mixed feelings. As time passes, sparks begin to reignite in the ashes of love, and Mathilde and Kandry both betray their families. It isn’t long before Philippe discovers his wife’s infidelity and forcibly takes Mathilde away; they move elsewhere. A heartbroken Mathilde cannot bear another separation, and her stubbornness and extremes lay the groundwork for the tragedy that follows.
