In a coastal village in Thailand, a large number of Rohingya refugees drown at the seaside. A young fisherman discovers an unconscious man in the jungle and brings him home. The rescued man remains silent, and the fisherman names him Tongchai. The two men begin to live together and gradually develop a wordless bond. The shiny gem the fisherman uses to attract bat rays, also known as "devil fish," symbolizes their friendship. One night, the fisherman takes his fishing boat out to sea and never returns, leaving Tongchai alone. Gradually, Tongchai starts to take over the fisherman's life—his house, his job, and his ex-wife.
