At 17, Mike (Zac Efron) is the star of his high school, and during a crucial basketball championship, he decides to abandon his future to propose to his pregnant girlfriend, Scarlett. Twenty years later, middle-aged Mike (Matthew Perry) is struggling in both his personal and professional life, his wife Scarlett (Leslie Mann) decides to separate from him, and their children know him as a stranger. Mike moves in temporarily with his tech-savvy friend Ned (Thomas Lennon). As Mike reminisces about the bright future he could have had, he encounters a mysterious janitor during a visit to his old high school that magically transforms him back to 17.
