As the smoke of World War I gradually clears, young man Rannulph Junuh (Matt Damon) returns home to Savannah, Georgia, weary and battle-worn. Rannulph was once the town's most famous amateur golfer, but the war interrupted his dreams and forced him to say goodbye to his beloved Adele Invergordon (Charlize Theron) for a time. Adele's father, the richest man in town, built an extravagant golf course that once caused a sensation, but the Great Depression has left the course struggling. In an effort to help her lover regain his confidence and revive the golf course, Adele invites two professional golfers to compete against Rannulph. A glimmer of hope slowly emerges... This film is adapted from the original work by Steven Pressfield and won the Phoenix Film Critics Society Award for Best Original Music in 2001 and the Best Technical Award at the Shanghai International Film Festival in 2001.
