The national poet Lee Si-yang (Park Hae-il) in his seventies lives secluded in a remote villa, with his daily life managed entirely by his disciple Seo Ji-u (Kim Woo-hyung). Seo Ji-u, a rising star in the literary world, is about to release his first novel "Heart." Eun-kyung (Kim Go-eun)'s accidental intrusion disrupts the peaceful life of Lee Si-yang and his disciple. Young and beautiful, Eun-kyung is naive and innocent, and Lee Si-yang seems to regain some youthful vitality through her. Seo Ji-u finds it hard to accept that his admired mentor is entangled with a seventeen-year-old female student, especially as his own status gradually declines, but more than that, he feels jealousy. Lee Si-yang writes a short story featuring Eun-kyung as the protagonist, which is discovered by Seo Ji-u and published under his name. Unexpectedly, this fictional piece wins a literary award that year. Lee Si-yang, furious, has a fierce argument with Seo Ji-u, revealing that Seo Ji-u has never written a novel; he is merely Lee Si-yang's ghostwriter. Eun-kyung, who happens to pass by, witnesses everything. She also reads the story and mistakenly believes that Seo Ji-u has feelings for her, a small misunderstanding that leads to a devastating conclusion for the complicated relationships among the three.
