The story takes place in a cotton mill in a small southern town, where Norma (Sally Field) and her family all work. The working environment in this factory is extremely harsh, with workers enduring the ruthless exploitation and hard labor imposed by capitalists every day. Faced with such unfair treatment, the workers are oppressed and troubled. To change this situation, the union sends an experienced organizer to assist the local workers in forming their own union, fighting for better treatment and rights. However, the workers are skeptical about the organizer's arrival, fearing it is just a hopeless attempt. The organizer faces many difficulties and challenges. The workers mock him coldly, while the boss uses various unreasonable obstacles to hinder the establishment of the union. Seeing all of this, Norma is filled with indignation and dissatisfaction. She is a strong-willed woman who dares to challenge unreasonable things. Inspired and influenced by the organizer, Norma ultimately chooses to step forward and becomes a pioneer of change.
