Jewish high school student Danny (Steven Kaplan) shares his unfortunate experiences with friends sunbathing by the pool. It turns out that Danny has been selected to organize this year's high school prom, but as a single guy, he doesn't even have a date to attend with. At the family dinner table, everyone expresses doubts about Danny's prospects and encourages him to find a girlfriend to boost his confidence. So, Danny reaches out to the spirited cheerleader and even brings along his battle-scarred father (William H. Macy) on their date. However, clearly ineffective, his father only ends up embarrassing him. Subsequently, Danny begins to make moves on his overweight friend, but it’s not easy for them to be honest with each other after their past rivalry.
