In 1978, after feeling guilty for the killings he committed during the Vietnam War, Liu Muxing returned to South Korea and converted to Catholicism. To atone for his sins, Liu devoted himself to spiritual practice and organized villagers to raise funds to buy land for preaching. Detective Cheon Yeong-deok (played by Jung Jae-yong) suspects Liu Muxing is a fraud and persecutes him, but soon he is moved by Liu. Together, they take a few criminals and travel to a remote place in search of redemption. 25 years later, the place where Cheon and Liu settled has developed into a well-organized village. Liu Muxing has passed away, and his son Liu Haiguk (played by Park Hae-il) rushes back from Seoul for the funeral. However, the villagers seem unwelcome to Liu Haiguk, eagerly anticipating his departure. Doubts arise in Liu Haiguk's mind, leading him to insist on an autopsy for his father. He also discovers that the land and assets originally belonging to his father have been transferred to Cheon Yeong-deok. Liu Haiguk seeks help from prosecutor Park Min-wook to assist in the investigation, while a village woman named Yeong-ji secretly observes him.
