Once upon a time, America claimed to have the best public education system in the world, but over the past thirty years, despite politicians continuously emphasizing the need to improve the flawed education system, the situation for children has not changed at all, instead presenting a worrying outlook. Children born into ordinary families often face enormous barriers in reading and math, with their average levels significantly lower than those in other developed countries around the globe. Some high schools have even become notorious dropout factories, with countless youths entering society too early, and the cost to the nation for one prisoner far exceeds the funding allocated for one student. The current public education system in the U.S. exhibits a paradoxical situation where priorities are completely reversed. Should we take proactive steps to eliminate the shortcomings in this field, or sit idly by and wait for Superman to appear? This film won the Audience Award for Best Documentary at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival.
