Plot: Massa, a worker in his thirties, is passionate about his job and earns his boss's recognition, but this also alienates him from all his coworkers. One day, he loses a finger due to a workplace accident, and everything changes. All the workers unite against the boss, while Massa's life begins to unravel; his mistress leaves him, his wife takes their son after the divorce, and he mistakenly aligns himself with the empty and unrealistic slogans of university students, ultimately facing the consequence of being fired by the boss. A collective strike paralyzes the factory, with workers demanding contract revisions and better treatment, while also hoping that Massa can return to work. Later, the boss asks Massa to come back during the strike, and he agrees, but when he arrives at the factory, he cannot face the gathered workers. In his shame, he finally understands the workers' firm stance: no compromise until the issue is reasonably resolved. Behind the production: This film won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival. It contains many elements of social reality and is a politically charged film characteristic of its era, portraying through Massa, the "confused worker," the dilemma faced by people caught between revolutionary ideals and harsh realities. The film continues the theme and style of the director's previous work "Investigation of a Citizen Above Suspicion," but shifts its focus to explore the changes in the mindset and psychological experiences of the working class.
