A great new technology has been invented by scientists that can shrink humans down to just 5 feet tall, which means that humans will consume fewer resources and gain a larger living space. Paul (played by Matt Damon) and Audrey (played by Kristen Wiig) are a couple trapped in poverty, and to enjoy a better life, they decide to undergo the shrinking experiment. However, at the last second before the experiment begins, Audrey has a change of heart, leaving Paul to shrink successfully on his own. In the beginning, everything is novel for the shrunken Paul as he moves into a community built specifically for tiny people, experiencing unprecedented new realities. But as time goes by, problems start to emerge. The society for small people isn’t actually much better than that of adults, and worse yet, the vast difference in size causes a rift in Paul and Audrey's relationship.
