A young man named Takuji (played by Tomokazu Miura) who has just graduated from university falls in love with a girl named Kiyono (played by Momoe Yamaguchi) who has grown up in the deep mountains. They overcome numerous obstacles and eventually get married. However, shortly after their wedding, war breaks out, and Takuji takes up arms and goes to the battlefield, unfortunately suffering serious injuries and being sent back home. Under Kiyono's careful nursing, Takuji gradually recovers, and their feelings for each other deepen over time. However, their happy days don't last long, as a new military order soon arrives in Takuji's hands. This war is especially brutal, and Kiyono misses her husband every day at home, quickly becoming overworked and falling ill. Meanwhile, luck does not seem to favor Takuji either.
