Reporter Willy (played by Fredric March) is going through the biggest crisis of his career; if he doesn't find an opportunity to turn things around, he could face a downfall. Just at this moment, a girl named Hazel (played by Carole Lombard) appears in Willy's life. She has supposedly been severely affected by nuclear radiation and has little time left. Willy decides to take her into the city for her last days and use this as inspiration for some tear-jerking news articles. However, it turns out that Hazel has not actually been affected by radiation and is in fact quite healthy. She decides to keep this fact hidden for now and enjoy New York to the fullest. Thus, Willy and Hazel embark on a journey filled with lies and interests.
