Stevens (portrayed by Martin Lawrence) is currently the hottest talk show star in the public eye. His motivational speeches have inspired countless young people trapped in the mire, guiding them to rediscover their direction in life. In reality, Stevens has a humble past; in his hometown, a small place called "Dry Springs," young Stevens was the target of ridicule and bullying by his neighbors. Stevens decides to return home for his parents’ 50th wedding anniversary, mainly to show the stagnant townsfolk that he is no longer the poor kid he once was.
