Retired and over seventy, actor Morris (Peter O'Toole) and Ian (Leslie Phillips) are good friends living in London. Their mundane lives are occasionally brightened by visits to the café owned by Donald (Richard Griffiths) to reminisce about the good old days. Their quiet existence is disrupted by the arrival of a girl. Ian's great-niece, Jessie (Jodie Whittaker), comes down from northern England to find work and temporarily stays in Ian's apartment. Jessie struggles to adapt to life in London, and Ian finds her challenging to deal with. At a crucial moment, Morris comes to the rescue of his old friend; he takes Jessie around London, helps her look for a job, and becomes deeply infatuated with this sensitive and shy girl...
